Frank Doran has worked at Mulcair Veterinary Clinic since he qualified and was instrumental in the formation of the practice as it is today. Frank is our most experienced large animal vet and has many years of dealing with all aspects of farm practice. He is an excellent surgeon.

Brian Ryan qualified in 1984 and after six years working in the UK returned to join MVC. Brian is the senior partner and equine vet at MVC. His areas of interest are equine reproduction and bovine herd health. Brian and his family are involved locally with the Pony Club and his home is a menagerie of pets.

Patrick Cuddy is from Galway. He graduated from UCD Vet School in 2006. He worked for 2 years in Kildare in an equine and small animal practice. He then left Ireland for New Zealand for a year working in a Large Animal Practice on the North Island. When he returned to Ireland he worked in Nenagh for a year before joining MVC in the spring of 2011. Patrick is a keen rugby player and follower.

Martin Ryan qualified in 1996 and after a period of research on Bovine Reproduction with Prof Jim Roche at Department of Animal Husbandry at UCD went into practice in Kerry for two years before joining MVC in 2001. He gained a certificate in Bovine Reproduction from the Royal College in the UK in 2003. He has done the entrance exams for Blackhall Place. As well as his interest in law he has done many courses in the area of taxation.

Colman Fraher qualified in 1998 and worked in Cahir, Co Tipperary in practice until the Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2001 where he helped with the eradication programme in Cumbria in the UK. In 2002 he joined a small animal practice in Sunderland and worked there until his return in 2005 to MVC. Colman is a farmer and has a pet cocker spaniel called ‘Lucy’.

Sean Coffey qualified in 1998 and worked at MVC until 2000. He then took at post at a small animal practice in Sheffield until 2002 when he returned home from the UK again to MVC and has worked there since. He became a partner in 2005. Sean is the Small Animal vet in Newport. He has two cats, Foggy and Sooty and a terrier called Paudie.

John Berkery qualified in 2002 and has been working with MVC since. John is the Large Animal Partner at the Newport Branch. He has a keen interest in herd health. John and his family have two dogs, Oisin and Bo, and two cats, Puss and Mickey.

Anna Nolan qualified in 1984 and after 6 years working in the UK returned to Mulcair Vet Clinic where she has worked ever since. Anna is the small animal vet in Cappamore. Anna and her family have 2 dogs ‘Ben’ and ‘Shep’, horses, fish, hens, reptiles and small furries!

Veterinary Nurses

Cathriona Murphy qualified as a Veterinary Nurse from UCD Vet School in 2009. She has spent most of her training period and working life with Vincent Ireton MVB MRCVS at his Clare Street Pet Clinic. She is from Lackamore in Newport where she was raised on a farm. She has many cats and dogs but also has a keen eye for pedigree Hereford cattle.

Michael Meehan is our Cappamore Veterinary Nurse. Michael has worked with MVC for many years since his student days in 2004. He qualified in Veterinary Nursing in 2007 from Athlone IT. Michael has a special interest in everything avian. He has owned and bred birds all his life and has a great knowledge of their husbandry needs. He is also a proud owner of an Irish Water Spaniel called ‘Buffy’.

Administrative Staff

Helen Ryan has worked at the front desk at MVC since 1998 and co ordinates the vets, clients and office in Cappamore. Helen has a special interest in horses, she herself being an accomplished show jumper. She has many dogs as she provides a home for many a helpless stray animal.

Mandy Moroney hails from Cappamore itself. She came to work at MVC during her school summer holidays in 2002 and returned to work full time after her Leaving Cert and has worked consistently since and now controls all the accounts at MVC. Mandy and her family have always owned horses and dogs.

Margaret O’Sullivan hails from Newport and is the ever present staff member in our Newport office dealing with all the farmer inquiries and accounts. She has 2 cats at her home in Newport.

Josephine Lee has worked at MVC since 2008 and works with both the small and large animal clients in our Cappamore office. Josephine and her husband, John, have a small farm with cattle but they also keep hens and birds.

Sheila Kennedy is from Doon and has worked in both Newport and Cappamore since 2000. She is from a farming background and so she empathises with our large animal clients especially. She has a large friendly Rottweiller at home.
